The West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre (WPSRCC) Board passed several resolutions at their December 14 meeting, including decisions to:
- Proceed with plans to build a six-lane pool, citing the need to build for the future “contingent upon the Fundraising Committee raising the $5 million capital construction and $5 million endowment as identified in the Committee’s Fundraising Strategy as approved by the Board in September, 2022.” The (WPSRCC) Board passed this resolution based on the WPSRCC Steering Committee’s report that was drafted in consultation with, and using data from, the Simcoe-Muskoka YMCA. The report compared projections for building a six-lane pool and those of building a four-lane pool, factoring in projections for population growth, capital costs, memberships, revenue and operating costs.
- Engage CS&P Architects to design the facility, based on the recommendation of the Steering Committee and the Project Manager, Gordon and Gordon Group Inc.. Four other firms were shortlisted alongside CS&P Architects whose winning bid has a fixed fee of $2,256,610.00. CS&P is an award-winning architecture and design firm recognized for some of the most widely appreciated community, civic, institutional and learning-based spaces in Canada.
- Finalize and launch a central website for the WPSRCC to keep the public, media, potential donors and stakeholders informed with accurate information. All updates and news will be shared at www.wpspoolandrec.ca which will officially launch in the new year.
“Each person involved in this project has been working diligently behind the scenes and in the public sphere to make these important decisions and keep this project moving forward,” says Donald Sanderson, Chair of the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre Board. “We are pleased to have achieved these key milestones before year-end.”
