White Squall Outdoor Store and Padding Centre is donating an estimated $22,000 in proceeds from their March 23 film festival and silent auction to the West Parry Sound Recreation and Cultural Centre (WPSRCC).

Nearly 400 guests came to the Stockey Centre, setting a record for the annual event. “We believe this represents the community’s widespread support and enthusiasm for this important community centre that will enhance life in the region,” says Jane Culverwell, a member of the fundraising team.

The typical audience of paddling enthusiasts, representatives from the Georgian Bay Biosphere and outdoor club members was augmented by many local citizens who came out to this event for the first time, keen to show support for the WPSRCC.  The evening included film screenings, refreshments, live entertainment by bluegrass band Whiskeyjack, a kayak give-away by Delta Kayaks and White Squall, and a silent auction featuring more than 140 donated items.

Dedicated White Squall staff and supporters worked for many hours to set up the auction, first online and then onsite. The fundraising team extends a special thanks to Corine Green who took the lead on that project.

“This fun-filled event was a huge success in support of our recreation centre,” says Culverwell. “Thanks to all those in the community who came out to cheer on the beginning of the build.  There is much buzz and excitement in the air as we see shovels in the ground. We encourage other local businesses who want to contribute to reach out to our fundraising team.”
